History reminds us of not only what has passed but also narrates tales of sufferings and victories, and this is why we celebrate Holocaust Remembrance Day, or in Hebrew, Yom HaShoah. Officially recognized for the first time in 1951, Yom HaShoah is a day on which we want to remind people of the difficult times experienced many years ago while emphasizing the importance of accepting differences, caring for the hurt, not judging others superficially, and confronting hate whenever and wherever it occurs today. Today also honors the survivors of history’s darkest hour and the people who were brave enough to put an end to it. British statesman Winston Churchill wrote, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” From all the wrongs that happened, Yom HaShoah promises to always remember but never repeat. #WeRemember
